Fans of George Orwell will want to add this one to their RSS feeds: the Orwell Diaries blog.
From tomorrow (9th August), Orwell’s diaries will be published on the blog in “real time + 70 years”. As the site explains:
[E]ach diary entry will be published on this blog exactly seventy years after it was written, allowing you to follow Orwell’s recuperation in Morocco, his return to the UK, and his opinions on the descent of Europe into war in real time. The diaries end in 1942, three years into the conflict.
Those looking for Orwell’s insights into the political events of his day will have to wait until 7th September, because it seems the first weeks of his diary consisted only of notes on domestic matters: “plants, animals, woodwork, and – above all – how many eggs his chickens have laid”.
Oh my. Sounds more like Orwell’s Twitter account than his blog. 😉
Still, it’s a great idea, and I look forward to seeing this one unfold.
