“Get on the phone!”

I’ve never previously made any requests for money on this site, but I’d like to make an exception today.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of England’s annual collection for home missions is taking place this week. A number of ELCE congregations are struggling financially, and any donations to their work will be gladly received.

If you would like to support the work of the Lutheran church in the UK then you can give online here. Please select “Home Missions Fund” in the drop-down list. UK tax payers can gift-aid their donation so that the ELCE can reclaim the tax and increase the value of your donation.

In return, you will receive a delightful pair of monogrammed socks that have been personally blessed by the Revd Reg Quirk, chairman of the ELCE. Unless you don’t. 😉

I swear, a mysterious temporary dyslexia just came upon me and I read the title of this post to be “Get on the plane”… Now that’s another congregational growth idea…

    “Get on the plane”?

Nah, that’s just the advice I keep trying to give Josh Strodtbeck (that, and this).

Dr. Gene Scott made it to England? Good heavens, a culture clash of Waldorf Salad proportions.

  4. John H says:

Dr Gene Scott is my pastor’s father in the faith (his description!).

Apparently Dr Scott’s presentation of the evidence for the resurrection brought my pastor back to the faith as a young man.

Have you ever thought about partnering with LCMS congregations here in the states? Many cities have sister-cities; why couldn’t we have sister congregations? You could share prayer requests, and perhaps the U.S. congregation you’re paired with could help financially as well. I’ll be at Westfield House in Cambridge next year, and I was thinking about suggesting this to Pr. Quirk in addition to talking to some of the pastors I know here in the U.S. before I leave. I’ve heard that you guys can feel pretty isolated over there, so it could help with that too.

Kevin: delighted to hear from a future Westfield student. That is a great idea – do pass the idea on to Pr Quirk. He may even bless some socks for you if you’re very lucky. 😉
